Let's have a little fun and match our products with your game-day must-haves. Any Wisconsinite knows we do tailgating right.
Full confession: I'm a Badger football girl through and through. Give me a crisp fall Saturday at Camp Randall, a brat in one hand and a cheese curd in the other, and I'm a happy woman.
But I married a baseball guy. And when the Brewers are playing in October? Saturdays get shared. (So do Sundays. And most weeknights.)
So this month I've traded a little of my red for blue and gold, packed the cooler, and become the most supportive baseball wife in the parking lot. And after a few of these tailgates, I've learned something: football and baseball fans agree on very little, but both seasons are out to wreck your skin.
Wind off the lake. Frosty mornings that turn into sunny afternoons and back again. Hand sanitizer, cold cans and hours outside. By the seventh inning your lips are cracked, your hands feel like sandpaper, and there's a bug bite you won't notice until the drive home.
So I did what any small-batch skincare maker would do. I built a lineup.
Leading off: Lip Balm (because the wind always wins)
Chapped lips are the number one complaint we hear at our market booth once the weather turns, and tailgates are the worst offender. Cold air, plus wind, plus three hours of debating bullpen decisions with your in-laws, equals lips as dry as an infield in August.
- Lip Balm ($5): our everyday beeswax balm, made with a higher melting point so it can ride in a jacket pocket all game without turning to mush. Shea and cocoa butter keep lips soft for hours. Pick your side: Mint Vanilla or Lavender Vanilla.
- Lip Serum ($7): if your lips are already rough, this lightweight lip oil soaks in instead of sitting on top. Think of it as spring training for your lips. Use it the night before.
Pro tip: reapply every time you grab a snack. You'll be snacking a lot. This is Wisconsin.
The closer: Ditch the Itch
Nobody told the bugs it's October. On a warm afternoon in the parking lot, especially as the sun goes down, they show up uninvited and go straight for your ankles. Every good team needs someone who comes in late and cools things down.
- Bug Bite Balm ($5), aka Ditch the Itch: a pocket-size balm stick for skin that feels itchy or irritated after a bite. Shea butter, cocoa butter and jojoba with peppermint, lavender and tea tree oils give it a cool, soothing feel, and it glides on with zero grease. Toss it in the cooler bag and forget about it until the ninth inning.
Seventh-inning stretch: save those hands
Hand sanitizer. Ice-cold cans. High-fiving total strangers after every big hit. By the seventh inning your hands look like they played the game themselves. Dry knuckles and cracked cuticles are basically a playoff tradition.
- Miracle Glow Balm ($10): our pocket-size utility player for very dry, rough skin. Castor, avocado, sea buckthorn and rosehip oils with cocoa butter melt right in and seal in moisture. Hands, cuticles, lips, windburned cheeks: it plays every position.
Postgame: the only pint we recommend in the shower
Win or lose, you're coming home smelling like brats, grill smoke and somebody else's spilled beer. So let's lean into it.
Meet Tipsy Goat Soap ($8), our new goat milk soap made with local Wisconsin beer. Finally, a beer my husband and I can both get excited about.
We start with our small-batch goat milk recipe, then add beer from a local brewery for a rich, creamy lather. Goat milk cleanses gently, and shea butter, lard and tallow leave skin comfortable instead of tight after a long day outside. The beer changes from batch to batch, so every bar is a limited edition. Collect them like bobbleheads.
It also makes a great stocking stuffer for the baseball fan in your life who "doesn't need anything." (He needs this.)
Extra innings: Whipped Tallow is coming
When the cold really settles in, our Whipped Tallow comes back. It's our richest moisturizer, made for Wisconsin winters, and we only whip it up once temperatures hold steady so it turns out just right. Preorder the tallow and you'll be first in line, no ticket lottery required.
Your game-day lineup card
- Leading off: Lip Balm, in your pocket
- The closer: Ditch the Itch, in the cooler bag
- Utility player: Miracle Glow Balm, for hands and cheeks
- Postgame: Tipsy Goat Soap, waiting at home
Come find us at our next market on our events page and grab your game-day kit before the next first pitch. And if you spot a Badger fan in a borrowed baseball jacket cheering a little too loudly in the parking lot, come say hi. That's probably me.
On, Wisconsin! (And go Crew.)
