1% for the Planet

Giving back: 1% for the Planet

Ollie Skincare is now a member of 1% for the Planet. That means we give 1% of our annual sales (not profits) to environmental nonprofits, and 1% for the Planet checks our giving every year.

Our 1% is split between two groups we chose on purpose:

Milwaukee Riverkeeper protects the Milwaukee, Menomonee and Kinnickinnic rivers. Their watershed stretches from Washington and Ozaukee counties down to Milwaukee, right through the towns where we sell at markets. These are our rivers.

Savory Institute trains farmers and ranchers in regenerative grazing, which helps grasslands and soil recover. So much of what we make starts with grazing animals, like goat milk and tallow, so supporting healthier land felt like the right fit.

We're small, so 1% is a real commitment for us. It's also the most honest way we know to back up the word "sustainable."

Our Pledge for a Greener Future

At Ollie Skincare, we are deeply committed to sustainability, from the ingredients we select to the packaging we use. We strive to create high-quality, eco-friendly products that care for both your skin and the environment. Every product we purchase carries an environmental footprint, and we work hard to minimize ours through mindful choices and sustainable practices. Here’s how we’re making a positive impact:

Compostable Wrapping: Many of our products feature compostable wrapping, allowing our packaging to naturally decompose and return to the earth.

Recycled Plastic in Lip Balm Containers: Our lip balm containers contain 30% recycled plastic. By incorporating recycled materials, we reduce the demand for new plastic production and shrink our ecological footprint. Unlike single-use plastic bottles, our containers support a circular economy by reusing materials.

Aluminum Tins for Lotion Bars: We package our lotion bars in recyclable aluminum tins, a sustainable material that can be recycled endlessly. This ensures our packaging stays out of landfills and remains environmentally responsible. Additionally, we optimize our packaging and production processes to further lessen our environmental impact.

Local Farm-Sourced Ingredients: Supporting local farms is a priority for us. Many of our ingredients come from sustainable, nearby sources—for example, sunflower oil from Century Sun Oil, a farm committed to quality and sustainable agriculture. Shopping locally reduces packaging waste and cuts down on transportation emissions, supporting both the environment and regional farmers.

From compostable packaging and recycled materials to responsibly sourced ingredients, we are devoted to crafting skincare products that are both luxurious and environmentally conscious. We encourage customers to recycle our packaging properly and continually seek ways to improve our sustainability practices.

We're a small operation, and we don't pretend to have it all figured out. But every choice we make, from the wrapping on a bar of soap to the farm we buy sunflower oil from, is one we've actually thought through. If you have questions about how something is packaged or sourced, ask us. We'd rather give you a real answer than a green checkmark.

Sustainability FAQ

What is 1% for the Planet?

A global network of businesses that give at least 1% of annual sales to approved environmental nonprofits. Members send receipts and sales reports every year to be certified.

Who does Ollie's 1% go to?

Milwaukee Riverkeeper, which protects the rivers of the Milwaukee River Basin, and Savory Institute, which trains farmers and ranchers in regenerative grazing.

Why those two?

One protects the water in our own backyard. The other supports healthier land for the grazing animals behind ingredients like goat milk and tallow.

Is Ollie Skincare packaging recyclable?

Much of it is. Many soaps come in compostable wrapping, lotion bars come in recyclable aluminum tins, and our lip balm containers contain 30% recycled plastic.

Where do your ingredients come from?

We buy locally when we can. Our sunflower oil comes from Century Sun Oil in Pulaski, Wisconsin, and we grow and infuse herbs like calendula and lavender ourselves.

Is bar soap more eco-friendly than body wash?

Usually, yes. A bar of soap needs far less packaging than a plastic bottle of body wash, and it's lighter to ship.
